SRCMA Marine Forum

Southern Rivers CMA organised a Marine Forum in May 2007 at South Durras. The event represented the first of its kind on the South Coast for individuals and groups directly involved in marine issues, and generated significant interest from a broad range of stakeholders including recreational and commercial fishers, the marine tourism industry, ports corporations, universities and other research institutions, community groups, non-government organisations and government agencies.

Feedback about the Forum indicated a high degree of satisfaction amongst participants who enjoyed learning and discussing locally relevant ideas and issues. It also provided a great opportunity to network with others who work in, manage or research aspects of the marine environment.

The Forum included combination of presentations and small workshops around four key topics: managing marine pollution; managing marine pests; climate change issues and the implications for the marine environment; and ecological knowledge of the marine environment.
